Our Story
"Nice people serving nice people"

Doug Crossett – Owner & CEO

The Crossett family moved to Pleasantville in the early 1960’s with their 7 children and settled on Sunnyside Avenue. Doug, the fifth oldest, was a standout player on the Pleasantville High School football team (Go Panthers!) before heading upstate to attend college at SUNY-Plattsburg. After two years of cold winters away from home, Doug returned to Pleasantville to finish his college and football career at Pace University.

Fate took an interesting twist during his senior year, when a pre-season knee injury ended Doug’s football career and left the active undergraduate with a lot of extra free time. “I was bored and missing football, so I agreed to fill in for a few bartending shifts at the local Chappaqua pub of the day, Mullane’s Mug. From the moment I stepped behind the bar I knew I had found something special.”

Doug went onto open his first location less than 5 years later just down Bedford Road, at the now “famous” Michael’s Tavern. When Michael’s first opened its doors in 1979, it was half the size and much more of a pub for drinks than a family style restaurant. Michael’s remained a popular spot for Pace students and football watching for the next 15 years while the brand was expanded and Doug opened other Michael’s locations in Tarrytown and Somers. In the early 90’s, Doug decided to take his business in a slightly different direction and returned to his first restaurant job to buy Mullane’s Mug and transform it into the popular Chappaqua eatery, Peabody’s Café.

Beginning with the opening of Peabody’s, Satisfied Customers Inc. began to move away from college night life-only haunts to more diverse locations capable of serving quality food and beverages to the entire community in a family friendly atmosphere as well as providing fun nightlife for local 20 something’s after hours. During the early 90’s, the selling of several Michael’s locations, except for the original Pleasantville Michael’s and Peabody’s in Chappaqua, lead to the successive opening of The Katonah Grill in 1997, McArthur’s American Grille in Pleasantville in 1999 and the Valhalla Station in 2000.

Most recently, Crossett has moved even further toward creating customer experiences with a culinary flair through the dramatic menu overhauls at McArthur’s (a rotating seasonal specials menus, globally diverse wine selections and unique beverage creations) and the March 2010 opening of Oliver’s, the ultimate Northern Westchester neighborhood restaurant perfect for a business lunch, family dinner or adult pub relaxation.  After 30+ years in the restaurant industry, Satisfied Customers Inc is now comprised of Michael’s Tavern and McArthur’s American Grille in Pleasantville and Oliver’s in Katonah.

Today, Doug lives with his wife Nancy in Katonah, where they have lived since they married in 1981. They have three children: Kelly, a graduate of Loyola College and American University; Matthew, a graduate of Loyola College and current English teacher living abroad in Bangkok, Thailand, and Robert, a star lacrosse defenseman at Endicott College outside of Boston. Truly, a family business for the Crossett’s: Nancy is a vital member of the company management team working out of Oliver’s office on a variety of special projects and daily business affairs as well as overseeing “the look” & design elements of all three restaurant locations.

Nancy Crossett – Owner & CFO

Originally from Yonkers, NY, Nancy is the daughter of William and Joan Carroll who brought the family to Pleasantville when Nancy was just a baby. The 3rd oldest of 10 children, Nancy’s management skills were honed early on as she regularly helped take care of the “littler ones”. Nancy graduated from Pleasantville High School in 1972 and moved North to attend Endicott College just outside of Boston graduating in 1974.

After college Nancy, remained in Boston for the next few years working at Boston University in the Office of Analytical Studies and Planning. In the summer of 1978, she returned to Pleasantville, to take a job in Human Resources with The American Can Company in Greenwhich, CT.

Having grown-up in two of the “big Pleasantville families” of the time, Doug and Nancy had known of each other but had never formally met until the wife of Doug’s former business partner suggested a double date to the wedding of mutual friend in 1979. The rest is history.

Doug and Nancy married in November of 1981 and lived on Manville Road, just around the corner from McArthur’s current location. Shortly thereafter the young couple moved up the Saw Mill to Katonah and celebrated the birth of their first child, Kelly, followed by Matthew in 1987 and Robert in 1989. Nancy remained a devoted stay at home mom until her youngest son was in school full-time then slowly began working in and learning all the different facets of the restaurant industry in both the front and back of the house. Active in PTA, Girl Scouts, Little League and any other activity her children were involved in, Nancy relished the ability to learn a new industry slowly while still maintaining her number one role of mother to her three children.

With youngest Robert off to college in the Fall of 2007, Nancy dramatically increased her role and presence in the company, taking on responsibility for Payroll and Human Resources across the three SCI locations, as well as offering a strong female leadership presence in all aspects of company decision making.

Today, Nancy holds the title of company CFO and is additionally responsible for the day-to-day operations of Oliver’s in Katonah as well as the “look” and interior design of all restaurants.

Today, Doug and Nancy reside in Katonah, where they have lived since 1983…right up the hill from Oliver’s. They have three children: Kelly, a former Teach for America teacher who currently works as Director of Operations & Catering with SCI ; Matthew, an English language teacher living abroad in Spain, and Robert, a defensive specialist lacrosse coach at his (and Nancy’s) alma mater, Endicott College outside of Boston.
